The BMAS runs several 'Special Topic' or 'Short Course' days. These are for medical acupuncturists who have completed their Foundation Course training or for experienced practitioners who wish to refresh their knowledge.
A wide range of topics are offered, including Anatomy, Back Pain, Headache, Palliative Care, Electroacupuncture, Pregnancy/Childbirth and Women’s Health. All courses are open to BMAS members and to non-members.

Acupuncture and Women's Health
A specialist day focussing on acupuncture and fertility/gynaecology. Topics include: anovulation and polycystic ovary syndrome; vasomotor symptoms; pelvic pain during pregnancy; acupuncture and assisted reproduction therapy.

BMAS Points Practical
The new BMAS Points Practical courses will follow a rolling programme of four days, focussing on practical needling of particular regions of the body. A selection of the four days will be covered over one year. The four days cover the core skills training for the Diploma of Medical Acupuncture (DipMedAc). Other self-directed study is required to cover the knowledge and research base for the DipMedAc.

Gerwin Masterclasses
These workshops are run by Dr Robert Gerwin, a Board-Certified neurologist from Washington State, USA. Bob had the opportunity of training in the diagnosis and management of myofascial pain syndromes under the renowned Janet Travell, and now runs a multidisciplinary pain clinic specialising in this field. The workshops involve lectures, demonstrations and practical experience. Attendees will gain most from this course by participating in the practical elements which involve palpation and needling of the most common muscle groups affected by myofascial pain syndromes. Practicals will be in small groups, and attendees should bring loose clothing, suitable to permit reasonable exposure of shoulder and hip girdles, lower back and limbs, as appropriate for each course

Anatomy for Acupuncture
A one day course covering the aspects of human anatomy that are essential to the safe and effective practice of acupuncture.
