Acupuncture in Pregnancy and Childbirth

An online course on obstetric acupuncture aimed at all regulated health professionals who come into contact with pregnant women and who wish to further develop their knowledge and skills in the use of Western medical acupuncture in preconceptual, antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care - led by Dr David Coggin-Carr

For complete beginners in this area of practice, we recommend that this course is combined with a BMAS foundation course to provide a comprehensive training package. For those already practising medical acupuncture, it will serve as a supplementary course and offer a comprehensive review of the current evidence base underlying the use of acupuncture in pregnancy and childbirth. It will also provide the opportunity to consolidate the clinical approach to a number of problems through case-based discussion, clinical demonstrations and practical points sessions focussing on the most important acupoints for obstetric indications.

Topics covered include the following:
- Natural and assisted conception (including in vitro fertilisation)
- Pregnancy-associated nausea and vomiting (including the use of acupuncture)
- Musculoskeletal pain in pregnancy (pelvic girdle pain and lower back pain)
- Breech presentation (including the use of moxibustion)
- Cervical ripening and induction of labour
