This resource provides contact details for BMAS members who have completed the requisite training hours and have opted in to appear in this listing. It is not an exhaustive list of all BMAS members practising medical acupuncture so if you cannot find a particular acupuncturist please call 01606 786782.
All members of the BMAS are regulated health professionals with a formal healthcare degree qualification or equivalent.
A regulated health professional who has completed at least six hours of acupuncture development training in the last twelve months.
Certificate of Medical Acupuncture: Completed BMAS Foundation Course or equivalent, practiced acupuncture for at least three months, keeping a logbook of over 30 cases, demonstrated competence and safe practice to an experienced BMAS assessor.
Safety and Competence Award: A BMAS award recognising completion of the University of Hertfordshire's study module 'Western Medical Acupuncture in Clinical Practice' and requiring completion of the BMAS Foundation Course or equivalent, and demonstrated competence and safe practice to an experienced BMAS assessor.
Diploma in Western Medical Acupuncture: Completed the BMAS CMA (or CoBC) or SCA, including the BMAS Foundation Course or equivalent. In addition, at least 100 training hours including attending further courses and meetings, plus a logbook of at least 100 cases plus 15 detailed case reports. This level of training award is recognised by the BMAS for 'accredited' status, with reaccreditation required every five years by submission of a comprehensive training record. Practitioners qualified to this level are likely to be recognised by health insurance providers.
Postgraduate Certificate in Western Medical Acupuncture: Completed the BMAS Foundation Course or equivalent, followed by a university programme of four modules, at least three of them specialising in medical acupuncture. This level of training award has now been recognised by the BMAS for 'accredited' status, provided that the practitioner has demonstrated competence and safe practice to an experienced BMAS assessor.
Postgraduate Diploma in Western Medical Acupuncture: Completed the BMAS Foundation Course or equivalent, followed by a university programme of eight modules, at least six of them specialising in medical acupuncture. This level of training award has now been recognised by the BMAS for 'accredited' status, provided that the practitioner has demonstrated competence and safe practice to an experienced BMAS assessor.
Masters in Western Medical Acupuncture: Completed the BMAS Foundation Course or equivalent, followed by a university programme of 12 modules, plus two further detailed studies, on evidence-based practice and on health disciplines. This level of training award has now been recognised by the BMAS for 'accredited' status, provided that the practitioner has demonstrated competence and safe practice to an experienced BMAS assessor.
