What is BMAS Accreditation?

BMAS Accreditation is a two-stage process starting with the Certificate of Basic Competence (COBC), followed by the Diploma in Medical Acupuncture (DipMedAc)

Certification is open to members of the BMAS and you will find information on how to apply for the Certificate of Basic Competence and the Diploma in Medical Acupuncture on this website.

 

British Medical Acupuncture Society and Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Postgraduate Medical School

An MSc programme in Western Medical Acupuncture has been developed by the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Postgraduate Medical School in collaboration with BMAS. The programme enables busy healthcare professionals with an interest in acupuncture to consolidate their skills and expand their knowledge and critical understanding of the subject.

The aims of the programme are to:

Develop a systematic approach to the understanding of medical acupuncture and its use in contemporary healthcare practice

Develop the ability to critically analyse and evaluate issues related to the practice of medical acupuncture

Develop the appropriate methods of enquiry and skills needed to research and advance evidence based acupuncture practice

The programme is made up of a number of acupuncture – related and optional modules which can be taken on their own or can be combined to make up either a Postgraduate Certificate, Postgraduate Diploma or full MSc in Western Medical Acupuncture. Much of the programme is available on-line and does not require attendance at the University.

To enter the programme, students must either have completed the BMAS Foundation Course (or an equivalent course) or hold the BMAS Dip Med Ac (this gives exemption from some of the modules). They must also currently be using acupuncture in their clinical practice and should ideally hold a first degree in a relevant healthcare discipline.
